ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO STATALE
IGNAZIO BUTTITTA BAGHERIA, SICILY, ITALY - 26 - 30.05.2023
The LTTA C6 focused on “Be
green for a healthy Ocean”. The participants were 85
of which 22 teachers and 63 students hosted by the Italian families. The mobility started with
an official welcome by Mr G. Carlino, headmaster at Town Hall. He introduced
the partners, the eTwinning Ambassadors, Mrs L. Messineo from Palermo and the
one from Catania, the representatives of the local Department of Education. Mr
A. Maggiore, the school coordinator, presented the project and then he invited
each partner to describe the activities done, the outcomes and to what extent
was the impact of the project on the students, the school staff and the
families. Every morning pupils attended two classes and then they did the
project activities. They watched a play based on sea pollution performed by the
Italian students and in multicultural groups, they discussed, analyzed and
debated the causes and consequences of the impact of carbon emissions in the
air, the importance of the treatment of wastewater. Then each group reported
the positive actions to take to heal the sea.
Workshop: Your Carbon
Footprint - the Romanian students Razvan Castaliu demonstrated how to measure
the daily human actions impact on environment. Then the students worked through
6 areas of action: dwelling, water, recreation, electricity, transportation and
waste. After doing their carbon footprints
(https://www.footprintcalculator.org/), they examined their personal and
household habits and choices in relation to their carbon footprint; identified
which personal activities and household choices produce the most CO2 emissions
and suggested lifestyle changes they can make to reduce their footprint. Study visits: -The Wastewater Treatment
Plant in Bagheria: pupils learned how sewers collect wastewater and deliver it
to plants for treatment and how water is purified -Weather Forecasting Center in Trapani:
students learned about daily measurements of temperature, soil temperature,
wind directions and rainfall and did some activities on climate change and the
carbon cycle. -“Flash Mob”: students
performed the pollution themed flash mob in Bagheria Square dancing on the tune
of the song composed by the school partner of Lisbon and to which each school
partner contributed with a stanza. Cultural Visits: The
partners visited Palermo, Cefalù, Bagheria and its XVIII century villas and the
“Museo delle acciughe” in Aspra-Bagheria where the guests could experience the
traditional fishing methods and visited the salted sardine industries.
Finally the students did
an online evaluation survey on the LTTA and teachers met to discuss about the
final report.
